UPCOMING FIELDTRIP!

La Chua Trail, Paynes Prairie    Gainesville, FL

January 16, 2010                        8:00 am at the trailhead

Adam Kent, FFWCC biologist, will lead a field trip into Paynes Prairie on the La Chua trail in January.  Expect all sorts of wintering prairie birds, with lots of sparrows, waterfowl, and sandhill cranes.  Meet at the La Chua Trailhead at 8:00 am for a great day of inland Florida birding.

Welcome to our site!

We're delighted you have chosen our site to stop and browse. Located in St. Augustine, Florida, the St. Johns County Audubon Society offers members and visitors spectacular natural habitat: seashores and beaches, salt and fresh water marshes, meadows, rivers, and forests. Our county Bird List contains over 250 species including eagles, ospreys, black-necked stilts, painted buntings, swallow-tailed kites, herons, egrets, hawks, owls, pelicans, and many more.

We welcome guests at our program meetings and field trips. Weave through our nest and enjoy!

UPCOMING NATURE WALK!

Butler Beach Park and Weff Rd Docks

9:00 am

Meet at Butler Beach Park for a field trip of shorebirds!  The Weff Rd. Docks are infamous for the large number of roosting shorebirds that rest there during high tide everyday.  Hopefully there will be American Oystercatchers, Dunlin, Short-billed Dowitchers, Western Sandpipers, Black-bellied Plovers, and more.  This is a great place to at your leisure view shorebirds as they sit.  No brief glimpses and unsatisfying views here.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting is January 25th, at 7:00 pm.  Amy Meide, St. Johns Audubon Board Member, will be presenting on her Together Green Fellowship project, the Greening of the Greens, removing invasives and replanting natives at the St. Johns County Golf Course.  Amy also recently received an extra $1000 grant from Audubon for her project.  Congrats to Amy, and we'll be very interested in how her project that many of us have volunteered time on is progressing.

Our regular meetings are held at the South Ponte Vedra Civic Association (Map) at 7:00 pm every fourth Monday of the Month.  There will be no meeting in December.
