Woodstork Colony (Jax Zoo)  - March 12, 2006
These pictures were all taken on March 12, 2006 at the Jacksonville Zoo Wood Stork Colony. Nest building was already underway for the 2006 season - over 60 nests were already established. There were no hatchlings this day.

Nest Building is Underway

This is a partial view of 'Tree A'. In addition to Trees A and B, this year we have Trees C and D. The Wood Storks are nesting in two additional trees for the first time this season.

The Wood Storks are very active in the morning, leaving and returning to the colony constantly; often with building material for their nests.

This woodstork is a banded bird from Harris Neck NWR in Georgia (20 miles south of Savannah). There are a few Harris Neck birds in the Jacksonville Colony this year.
