Salamanders
Did you know?

Commonly mistaken for eels, the Greater Siren are the largest of salamanders found in the United States. They are one of the most unique underwater inhabitants of springs. Capable of exceeding three feet in length, they are one of the largest amphibians in the world and, unlike eels, must emerge from their secretive lairs near the bottom beneath leaves and other vegetation to surface for air.

Toads & Frogs
In colder parts of Florida, frogs hibernate in winter in the mud at the bottom of ponds or under tree bark, while in the extreme south many remain active all year.

Frogs and toads have excellent hearing and vocal capabilities. Their well-developed ears feature a conspicuous external eardrum, a round disk located behind the eye.

Like Salamanders, frogs are fast declining in number worldwide.
